Is this environmentally friendly?

At Parametric Walls, we often hear a certain question from our clients: “These walls are stunning — but are they environmentally friendly?” We deeply appreciate that our clients are becoming increasingly conscious about sustainability, because it’s something we deeply care about too. In this blog, we’ll take you through how we approach sustainability in our designs, the materials we use, and the steps we take to ensure that the environmental impact of our installations is as minimal as possible.

What Makes Parametric Walls Sustainable?

Sustainability is an important consideration for many of our clients who are looking to make responsible, forward-thinking decisions for their projects. When it comes to Parametric Walls, we know that our choice of materials and design features are key to addressing the environmental questions many of our clients have.

The main material we use is Corian®, an acrylic-based material renowned for its durability and flexibility in design. Naturally, as a synthetic material, Corian® raises concerns for those who are looking for eco-friendly options. However, it’s important to understand that sustainability isn’t just about the raw material itself – it’s about how that material is used, how long it lasts, and what happens at the end of its life cycle.

Recycling and Circular Economy: Giving Materials a Second Life

We take our commitment to sustainability even further by actively participating in the Vita Nova initiative by CDUK, which helps to repurpose Corian® offcuts. Instead of allowing leftover material from our fabrication process to end up in a landfill, we ensure that these offcuts are recycled into new products. This initiative is part of a broader effort to close the loop in the material’s lifecycle, contributing to a circular economy that reduces waste and maximises the use of valuable resources.

By supporting this initiative, we are not just reducing the immediate environmental impact of our installations, but we are also encouraging a more sustainable approach to production within the design industry.

Durability and Longevity: Reducing Waste Over Time

One of the key sustainability benefits of Corian® is its exceptional durability. Our walls are designed to last for decades, making them a long-term solution that reduces the need for frequent replacements. By investing in a product that stands the test of time, architects and their clients can avoid the environmental cost associated with the disposal and replacement of less durable materials.

Because our walls are built to endure, they not only look beautiful but are also highly practical in terms of reducing waste over time. Choosing durable materials means fewer resources are required to maintain or replace a design element, and that translates to a reduced carbon footprint over the lifetime of the installation.

Efficient, Low-Energy Lighting: A Sustainable Choice for the Future

Another element of our Parametric Walls is integrated lighting. We use GENLED LEDs, which are known for their energy efficiency, longevity, and low maintenance. These LEDs use significantly less energy compared to traditional lighting options, meaning that our installations help to reduce energy consumption over time.

In addition to their energy efficiency, LEDs have a much longer lifespan, which means fewer replacements and less waste. They are also less likely to contribute to harmful environmental effects because of their minimal use of toxic materials. This decision to incorporate efficient lighting into our walls is part of our ongoing effort to reduce the carbon footprint of every installation.

The Bigger Picture: Sustainability Beyond Materials

At Parametric Walls, we understand that sustainability is a multifaceted issue, and it’s not just about the materials we use. How we design, fabricate, and install our walls all plays a role in ensuring the final product is as eco-friendly as possible. We take care to ensure that our designs are not just beautiful and functional, but also responsible in their overall environmental impact.

The long-lasting nature of Corian® and the energy-efficient lighting are just two of the ways we’re committed to sustainability. Of course, how our clients use and maintain the walls also matters. Smart controls, dimmers, and mindful energy use can further reduce the environmental impact of the installation, ensuring that it remains efficient throughout its life.

Conclusion: Sustainability in Every Step

While Corian® may not be the most naturally occurring material, the way we use it makes a significant difference in its environmental footprint. By focusing on durability, recycling, energy-efficient lighting, and longevity, we ensure that our Parametric Walls offer a sustainable solution for modern designs.

So, is our service environmentally friendly? Yes, we believe it is. Because sustainability isn’t just about choosing the “perfect” material, it’s about making conscious decisions that prioritise longevity, efficiency, and a responsible lifecycle. That’s the approach we take, and it’s one that we think makes our walls an eco-conscious choice for your next project.
